My paintings are inspired by embracing organic forms by taking the rough properties found within nature including weather and applying and intertwining these with my own style and approach. The colour of decay creates a stimulating array; I am attracted by the qualities of corroded metals, reflective surfaces and the iridescent colours and rough textures found in minerals. I aspire to recreate the same qualities on the canvas.
By using a wide range of art materials which include acrylic and oil paints, foils and mastics applied onto canvass or wood, I create this effect using PVA glue to construct depth, dimension and textures in a sculptural style. I allow the textures and colours to build, working on new layers each time. The inspiration of these paintings is to catch and evoke the viewer’s emotions; the rich tones and blends of pigments is enhanced by use of texture giving it a sense of warmth by rejecting cold undertones. I have a real zest in creating individual abstracts which reflect depth and intensity to create a rich tone of colours that are often balanced but sometimes can contradict.
