THE ABYSS (25 April - 27 April 2014)
THE ABYSS The Abyss is an exhibition initiated and lead by the artist Gayna Pelham together with 3 artists from Crisis Skylight Bermondsey: Jose Gomez, Tendekai and Jasper Woolf. Combining symbolic and allegorical ideas as well as cultural and personal viewpoints, the artists have worked collectively on all stages of the exhibition to produce a collaborative work. In the exhibition the viewer will journey through an interactive installation which will take them from the outside world into the inner world of the abyss as they move through the gallery space. The installation will explore contrasts between a more certain physical outer world and an uncertain internal perspective. When connections with the outer world are broken communication can become fragmented and that world no longer seems as definite or solid. If you cannot communicate and connect with the world you know then even the familiar and the ordinary becomes alien and disorientating. To experience this fragility in reality can be disturbing and confusing but the only way through a different state of mind is to keep going. Similarly, the only way out of the installation is to keep moving until you finally emerge. In order to create connections beyond the exhibition the viewer is invited to participate through posting parts of a large collective painting made out of postcards to friends and family.
