EXHIBITION PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release
London-based Spanish Artist Jose Gomez Exhibits With Art Number 23
in Barcelona
Art Number 23
12th - 17th May 2023
Calle Sant Marc 26
Gracià, 08012
Barcelona, España
London-based Spanish artist Jose Gomez exhibits with Art Number 23 in Barcelona.
After debuting his latest series ‘EGC’ in Madrid with three pieces in Galeria Azur in November last year,
Spanish painter and mixed media artist José Gomez will show four new
paintings from the same series in Art Number 23’s gallery space in Barcelona.
The four pieces will feature in the art collective’s new international group showcase of artists
which opens on Friday 12th May and runs until Wednesday 17th May 2023.
‘EGC‘ is Gomez’s latest series of abstract paintings. Coming right after ‘Men & Sports’, a
playful reimagination of Gomez’s own identity through portraits of fictional gay sportsmen,
‘EGC’ takes both the painter and the spectator into a new and even more stylish dimension
of his creativity.
Gomez describes this new series as an eclectic explosion of geometrical compositions
blended into a mix mash of vivid colors that seeks to trick the eye of the spectator as much
as it wants to stimulate it.
The playful take on Gomez’s bordering the colors with the use of recycled inner tubes from
bicycles is not only his subtle way to address the world’s growing environmental concerns
but also an elegant metaphor about the conflicting relationship between humanity and
consumerism.
Gomez is delighted to exhibit in Barcelona for the very first time: “I’m looking forward to
showing my paintings in Barcelona. This series has been a feel-good labor of love
and I would love the viewers to experience them in the same way that I composed
them, with a sense of calm, electricity and effervescence. I hope these paintings will
resonate with them.“
Gomez will be in Barcelona for the entire run of Art Number 23’s showcase and will be
available for interviews as well as for meets and greets.
